Centre assures commitments made to AP will be honoured

Centre has assured that the commitments made to Andhra Pradesh during the division of erstwhile state would be completely honoured. Responding to agitated Congress members on the issue, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha that the 14th Finance Commission has measured the financial requirements of the newly formed states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and funds would be allocated, keeping the financial position of the Centre in mind. Mr Jaitley said, institutions are being set up, tax incentives are being given and funds are being allocated for a new capital for Andhra Pradesh.<br/><br/>he issue was raised during Zero Hour by leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, saying the earlier UPA government had promised five-year tax holiday for the state and the BJP had also endorsed it. The House witnessed unruly scenes, with some Congress members repeatedly rushing to the well of the house. At one point the Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien had to remind Congress member Jesudasu Seelam, his behaviour was unbecoming and atrocious.<br/><br/>Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge also raised the issue in the Lok Sabha after Question Hour. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, the government honours the commitments made to Andhra Pradesh when Telengana was carved out of it. He said, there is no question of going back on the promises made to Andhra Pradesh post its bifurcation. He also said, the government has fulfilled majority of promises made to the state
