The Centre has allocated 292 crores rupees of funds under the National Livestock Mission and asked the states to use them for fodder development. The Agriculture Ministry said in a release that it has also asked the states to prepare an action plan for this purpose. It said, the plan will be useful for ensuring fodder availability for the animals in case of deficient rainfall, especially in States where there is already a shortage of fodder.<br/><br/>The Ministry has also allocated 100 crores rupees separately, under the Rashtriya Kisan Vikas Yojana. Under the scheme, assistance of up to 3,200 rupees is provided per hectare for a maximum up to 2 hectares for fodder development in drought affected areas. Both these schemes can be dovetailed with MNREGA. The Ministry said, the Centre will also co-ordinate movement of fodder from surplus area to deficient areas with Railways.
