Centre has asked the states to evolve a mechanism to streamline gram sabhas which have been witnessing thin attendance in its meetings in many Panchayats. Panchayti Raj Ministry secretary A N P Sinha has written a letter to states'chief secretaries in this regard. He said that gram sabhas are an effective tool at grassroots level in planning,implementation and performance review of various government schemes being implemented in rural areas . However, it is generally seen that meetings of the gram sabhas are not held regularly and are marked by thin attendance. <br/> <br/>
