The Centre on Thursday said that the State Governments have to ensure that people living under below poverty line gets food items at subsidised rates through Public Distribution System. Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata this evening, the Union Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that State Governments have to prepare a mechanism so that targeted people can get food items on which subsidies are being given by the Centre. The Minister opined that increase of support price on food items like rice, wheat and sugar is one of the main reasons for price hike of essential commodities. Mr. Mukherjee urged the State Governments to take effective steps against illegal hoarding and black marketing of the food items. He also expressed the hope that the Gross Domestic Production of the country will reach at seven and a half per cent by next fiscal. He categorically said that stimulus package to strengthen the economy will continue till the effect of world wide recession prevails. <br/>
