Centre asks states to create EGoM on agri

<br/>The Centre has suggested the states to set up an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) to cover all aspects of agriculture. Addressing a worshop on 'Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern Region' in Kolkata today, Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Sharad Pawar said that such empowered ministerial group should be set up under the chairmanship of Chief Ministers.<br/><br/>Pawar said that an integrated mechanism relating all sectors in agriculture will facilitate timely response to the farmers needs. He also stressed for setting up of a national-level task force for aggressive promotion of hybrid rice in the Eastern Region.<br/><br/>Addressing the workshop, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee stressed the need for ensuring enhancement of the capacity of farmers by using modern technologies to increase agricultural production. Mukherjee said that there will be no dearth of funds to agriculture sector to ensure food security in the country.<br/><br/>AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Agriculture Ministers of the Eastern Region States are attending the workshop. The workshop is discussing the possibilities how to increase agriculture production in the region to achieve the goal for food security of the country. The Centre has allocated an additional Rs 400 crore to implement Green Revolution projects for the Eastern Region.
