State governments have been asked to take appropriate action against the responsible persons in the mismanagement of mid-day meal scheme in schools. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, minister of state Human Resource Development, D Purandeswari said, few complaints on issues of misappropriation of mid-day meal funds, supply of poor quality of food grains, fake enrollment of children, serving unhygienic food are received through media reports. She said that a monitoring mechanism is in place to sort out the complaints of the scheme. The minister said the overall responsibility to ensure all logistic and administrative arrangements for serving wholesome and regular cooked mid-day meal lies with the state governments.
