Centre asks Chhattisgarh govt to revisit CRPF deployment

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram suggested Chhattisgarh government that "relocation and reconfiguration" of para-military forces in the state may be required as some of them were not operationally viable. Chidambaram also regretted the killing of 26 security personnel in Narayanpur district on Tuesday.
To a question whether the recent killing of CRPF personnel is due to violation of Standard Operating Procedures, the minister said he would wait for the report by CRPF chief, who is on the spot to conduct a preliminary inquiry.
Mr Chidambaram said the CPI (Maoist) continued to commit acts of violence and other depredations in pursuance of their declared armed liberation struggle.
Meanwhile a massive manhunt in Chhattishgargh jungles continues. Search operations have begun in Naryanpur's Daurai Road and adjacent areas where the dastardly attack took place. State DGP Viswa Ranjan said about 15 Naxals was also possibly killed when CRPF personnel retaliated firing during the ambush in a remote area, about 300 km from Raipur. The bodies of the Naxals have however not been found. Police say, around 100 Naxals struck with automatic rifles and the gunbattle lasted for two to three hours. The toll of the CRPF men has risen to 27 with recovery of the body of one missing CRPF constable Neeraj Kumar.
