Centre asks canteens in central govt. departments to take food safety licences from FSSAI

The Centre has asked over 1,350 canteens working in various central government departments to take food safety licences from Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).The Ministry of Personnel in an order said that all departmental canteens are required to comply with statutory framework for manufacturing, storage, distribution and sale of food so as to ensure its safety. <br/><br/>The order also notes that it is the responsibility of respective managing committees to obtain licence under provisions of Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.<br/>As per FSS Act, no person shall commence or carry on any food business except under a licence.
