Centre approves extradition treaty with Bangladesh, to form 1 member committee to look into Walmart lobbying issue

The cabinet has given its nod to an extradition treaty with Bangladesh. The treaty is likely to be signed during the visit of Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde to Dhaka beginning 28th of this month. The treaty is expected to pave the way for deportation of jailed ULFA general secretary, Anup Chetia and other northeast insurgents who have been hiding in Bangladesh It has also decided to set up a one member committee to look into the allegations of lobbying by Walmart to gain entry in Indian retail market.

The committee will be headed by either a retired Judge of Supreme Court or Chief Justice of High Court and it will submit its reports within three months. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kamal Nath had assured the parliament during Winter Session to set up a committee to look into the allegations.
The Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs gave its nod to modification in special industry initiative scheme UDAAN in Jammu and Kashmir to make it more flexible and relevant.

Flexibility to appropriate the budget among different expense heads will be allowed within the overall central assistance of 750 crore rupees. Public Sector Undertakings will be allowed to participate in the scheme and meet the expenses as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Air correspondent reports that under the scheme 40 thousand youth will be trained in five years.

Companies which enter into agreement with National Skill Development Corporation will screen and select student from the state.

The scheme will facilitate gainful employment to the youth of state and channelise their energies into creative work.
