Centre has approved construction of over 2.4 lakh houses for the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at an estimated cost of Rs 16,600 crore. Urban development Ministry has said, these proposals were approved since April this year for the benefit of urban poor in 11 states. <br/>Central assistance of 3,634 crore rupees has been approved for construction of the houses under three segments of the urban housing mission.<br/><br/>These are Affordable Housing In Partnership , Beneficiary Led Construction and in-Situ Slum Redevelopment. Maharashtra has got approval for over one lakh houses, followed by Tripura with over 42,800 houses, Odisha with over 23000, Bihar with over 21,000 and and Gujarat has got approval for around 18,000.<br/>With these approvals, a total investment of Rs 51,568 crore rhas so far been approved for construction of around nine lakh 28 thousand houses for economically weaker sections in urban areas in 20 states.
