Centre has approved the Atal Mission Plans for Punjab and Uttarakhand for 2015-16. Punjab will invest 720 crore rupees in basic urban infrastructure in 16 cities whereas Uttarakhand 267 crore rupees in six cities under action plans for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, AMRUT. Chairing the inter-ministerial apex committee, Urban Development Secretary Madhusudhan Prasad said, Punjab will get central assistance of 319 crore rupees while Uttarakhand 134 crore rupees under the State Annual Action Plans.<br/><br/>As per Atal Mission Guidelines, universal coverage of urban households with water supply and sewerage connections and ensuring water availability at 135 liters per capita per day gets priority. Urban Development Ministry said, Punjab has reported the best infrastructure in respect of sewerage treatment with availability of 100 per cent sewerage treatment capacity in 12 of the 16 mission cities. Only Amritsar, Barnala, Batala and Firozpur are lagging behind in this regard, for which projects have been proposed under SAAP for 2015-16.<br/><br/>With today's approval, the Ministry of Urban Development has approved city level Service Level Improvement Plans for 469 cities and towns in 20 States with a total expenditure of twenty thousand and 137 crore rupees. Out of which central assistance will be about ten thousand crore rupees.
