Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said that the Centre has approved 9017 crore rupees for states under National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) in 2014-15. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr Singh said this fund has been released to compensate the crop loss of the farmers. The minister informed that the losses to crops in the affected states are assessed by the Inter Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs). Mr Singh said sudden change in weather pattern like the recent flood in Tamil Nadu has resulted in crop damage, poor yield and loss of income to the farmers.<br/><br/>Replying to supplementaries, Mr Singh said anomalous weather and climate events in various regions could have been influenced due to global warming and long term climate change. The minister informed the House that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, in collaboration with state agricultural universities and concerned state departments, has developed district contingency plans including crop advisories to tackle any eventualities. Mr Singh said so far, contingency plans for 600 districts covering 25 states have been prepared and uploaded at www.farmer.gov.in. The minister said to operationalise the contingency plan, a National Consultation Meeting besides interface meetings with many state governments have also been conducted.
