Government has appointed 150 national monitors to ensure focussed and speedy implementation of prime ministers 15 point programme for the welfare of minorities. Replying questions in the Rajya Sabha today, the Minority Affairs Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid said that 2780 crore rupees will be spent on the welfare of minorities this fiscal. He said that government has already implemented the Sacchar committee report on the welfare of minorities and the Ranganath Mishra Commission report is under consideration. Mr. Khurshid said 90 minority concentration districts have been identified and a multi sectoral development programme is being implemented to address the backwardness of these areas. The minister elaborated in the House though these areas have substantial minority population but the facilities being provided and infrastructure developed will be available to the entire population. He gave the House the details of the measures taken by the government for the welfare of the minorities including construction of Housing under Indira Awas Yojna, provision of better education facilities and teaching aids etc.
