The government has instituted an international award in memory of Rabindranath Tagore with one crore rupees as prize money for promotion of values of universal brotherhood.

An official release said yesterday that the code of procedure for the award has been worked out by the Union Ministry of Culture and operational details have been finalized.

It is to be given annually to individuals, associations, institutions or organizations for promoting values of universal brotherhood and nominations would be drawn globally and will be announced every year on May 7.

The first Tagore award would be announced next year on May 7, the day of the concluding ceremony of the commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Tagore.
