Centre announces hike in minimum wage for non farm workers

The Centre has announced a hike in minimum wage for unskilled non farm workers of the Central government to 350 rupees a day from the current 246 rupees.<br/><br/>Speaking to reporters in New Delhi today, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the bonus for 2014-15 and 2015-16 will be paid to the eligible central government employees based on revised norms. He said the the bonus Amendment Act will be implemented strictly. <br/><br/>Mr. Jaitley said that the government will also take necessary steps to resolve the cases of payment of bonus pending in High Court and Supreme Court. Mr. Jaitley said government will make rules for employment of volunteers and anganwadi workers. He also said it will not affect service conditions of bank employees.<br/><br/>On this occasion, Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the issue of giving social security benefit to the unorganised sector will be examined by a committee which will give its report at the earliest.<br/><br/>The decision to raise the minimum wage was taken in the meeting of the Minimum Wage Advisory Board held under the chairmanship the Lab our Minister. The announcement came ahead of the proposed strike of the trade unions on Friday.
