Centre has announced 1.5 Lakh rupees as a reward for each player of the National Hockey team that recently won the Asian Champions trophy. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, the Sports Minister Ajay Makan said that government will give Twenty-Five Lakhs to each player if the team continues to bring such laureals in olympics. He added that players deserve these rewards for their outstanding performance and the government is not doing any charity.The Sports Minister also said that coaches and support staff will also get an amount half of the prize money of the players for their contribution. Mr. Makan emphasized that a team needs a motivation to perform consistantly at inter-national level. He said the Centre has spent about fifty crore rupees through various schemes in last three years to uplift the morale of the athletes.The Sports Minister charged the two factions Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation for the poor condition of the national sport. Supporting the step taken by the players to reject the price money offered by Hockey India, Mr. Makan said that any player will abjure such a meagree amount. On the other side Punjab Government has also announced a reward of twenty five lakh for the team for the Asian Champions trophy
