Centre allocates fund for improving Kolkata and Haldia ports

The Centre has chalked out a series of programmes for the Kolkata and Haldia ports, in West Bengal. Talking to newspersons in Kolkata today, the Union Shipping Minister Mr GK Vasan said that 285 crore rupees have been allocated for the improvement of these two ports in the eleventh five -year plan. The allocated money will be used for dredging and improvement of the canals in the vicinity. Expressing anguish over the decreasing depth of the Kolkata port, Mr Vasan pointed out that 6 dredgers are already working to increase the depth of the port.<br/>
