Centre: Allocated coal blocks not to be cancelled

The Centre today said all the allocated coal blocks will not be cancelled. Addressing media persons at Bhubaneswar, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V Narayan Swamy said it would be unfair and unethical to cancel all the allocated coal blocks to different public sector undertakings (PSUs), state sector and private companies. He said the Inter-Ministerial Group is looking into the irregularities into the coal block allocations and a final decision would be taken after submission of its report to the government.Mr Narayan Swamy said a number of coal blocks were also allocated for power production and the price of electricity would go very high if coal blocks to the allottees are cancelled at the present juncture. He said some compnaies could not go ahead for want of a number of clearances from the state governments. Criticising the BJP for trying to destablise UPA government and check the growth of Indian economy, Mr Narayan Swamy said the party should first ask its chief ministers who recommeded for coal block allocations before demanding resignation of Prime Minister. He said the CBI is already probing into the irregularities and the UPA government would not spare anyone. Mr Narayan Swamy defended the Centre's procedure for coal block allocations. He said no mining activities could be carried out without the support of concerned states . He added for this Centre had to accept the recommendation of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal for not going to aucition of coal blocks.
