Centre advises States, Union Territories to use water judiciously

The Centre has advised the States and Union Territories to use available water judiciously. It has also asked them to give priority to drinking water supply and irrigation and make use of ground water to the extent possible. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H. Pala said that water level in major reservoirs spread across the country was 30 per cent of their total live storage capacity as on 2nd of this month. He said, this was informed by the Central Water Commission, CWC which monitors the live storage status of 84 important reservoirs in the country.

The Minster said CWC says that water level in these reservoirs was 46 per cent during the corresponding period last year.
