Centre advises NE States to enhance vigil along adjoining national highway

The Centre has advised all the North Eastern States to enhance vigil along the adjoining national highway to keep a check on militant activities. The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. M Ramachandran informed the Rajya Sabha today that special intelligence-based operations along with mobile vehicle check post at random timings and locations on NH-39 are being carried out regularly. The Minister, however, said there are no active militant camps in Manipur. He said some arms and ammunition have been seized along the NH-39 from Dimapur in Nagaland to Moreh in Manipur. Mr. Ramachandran informed the house that concerted efforts are also being made by the state governments to counter activities of the militant groups and misguided elements. He said the Centre is supplementing their efforts through various measures. These include deployment of additional Central Security forces for carrying out intensive counter-insurgency operations and providing security for vulnerable installations and projects, based on threat assessments other than sharing of intelligence and financial assistance.<br/>
