Centre advances target of providing electricity to all from 2022 to 2018

The Centre has advanced the target of providing electricity to all from 2022 to 2018. Talking to reporters after inaugurating the State power and Mines Ministers' Conference in New Delhi, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said, the government has decided to achieve the goal by December next year. He also sought cooperation form the States to achieve the target.<br/><br/>Mr Goyal said the country has surplus coal and there is no shortage anywhere in the country. He said, , now the government is focusing on quality of coal to further improve power generation. The Minister said, in the last one and half years, a transformation has taken place in the filed of new and renewable energy. <br/><br/>He said, by the transparent auction of 1000 mega watt of wind energy, the power tariff of clean energy has halved and come down to 3 rupees 46 paise per unit.Our correspondent reports the two day conference will deliberate on various issues related to power including power tarrif and affordable electricity.
