In Darjeeling hills of West Bengal, the Centrally sponsored schemes under Bharat Nirman like Jawaharlal Nehru Urban development Mission, Integrated Child Development Aervice, National Rural Health Mission, National Rural Employment Programme, Mid-day Meal scheme in Primary Schools, Sarba Sikcha Abhiyan, National Rural Electrification Scheme and many other schemes are silently changing many a lives in the region for better.Under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yozana many a interior villages have been connected with village roads thusn providing if not very good road communication but approachable to one to another villages. Still many areas are yet to be covered. Similarly under the Rural Electrification Scheme many interior villages have been electrified but many a villages in the hills of Darjeeling are longing to get power supply as yet.In Darjeeling hills, under the Swarna Jayanti Gramin Swarojgar Yojana a number of artisans have started hand made metal items and utensils manufacturing Units, Vermi composed fertilizer units for organic agriculture, but the artisans are facing marketing problems of their products. A number of self help groups have been formed mainly with women members as needed in ICDS or SGSY schemes involved in the identification motiviation and monitoring of the beneficiary groups performing important responsibility making a bridge banks and district rural development centre for financial or other technical knowhow for all round development of rural masses.
