The Government has assured Parliament that the central team on a visit to West Bengal is only to help and assist the state government in dealing with the growing political violence in the state.<br/><br/>The assurance was given by the Home Minister, Mr P Chidambaram to both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.<br/><br/>As soon as the Lok Sabha met at 12 noon, the Home minister made a brief statement in the House following demand by the entire opposition. They cautioned the government of misusing Article 356 of the Constitution in this case. The Leader of the Opposition in the House, Mr L K Advani said the article should be used in the rarest of the rare cases.<br/><br/>In the Rajya Sabha, Mr Chidambaram elaborated that the Centre has no confrontation with the state government and has been working with them in tandem to resolve all issues with consultation.<br/><br/>The issue figured during the zero hour in the House with CPI, CPIM, SP, and BJP members seeking a clarification from the government that the issue will not lead to interference by the centre in the state government affairs.<br/><br/>As the House assembled for the day, CPIM leader Mr Sitaram Yechury wanted to raise the issue after suspending the question hour and was joined by other opposition party members.<br/><br/>The Rajya Sabha has been now adjourned till 2 pm, 15 minutes ahead of the lunch time as the issues of public importance came to an end.
