A Central Team today visited Puducherry to assess the damages caused by unprecedented rain in the Union Territory. The two member team visited worst affected pockets and took stock of the damages to infrastructure and crops in Puducherry. <br/><br/>Hundreds of acres of standing crops were lost in Puducherry and Karaikal in the heavy downpour and consequent floods. A few hundred houses too were damaged in the devastating rain. <br/><br/>A Central Team headed by TVSN Prasad, Joint Secretary in Ministry of Home had earlier visited Puducherry on November 29th to assess the damages. But the rain that followed the Team's visit caused more devastation than earlier necessitating a revised estimate of the losses. <br/><br/>The team members told media that they will submit a report to the Union Government soon. Chief Minister N Rangasamy has requested relief assistance to the tune of Rs.491.90 crores from the Centre. Union Government has so far released Rs.50 crore to the Union Territory for rain relief.
