Central team visits Kallanai dam in TN

The central team led by R K Gupta Chief Engineer, Central Water Commission today visited Kallanai dam in Tamil Nadu. Later they interacted with delta farmers about the water needs of Cauvery river for samba cultivation.The central team consisting of central water commission Chief engineer, R K Gupta, Director T K Sivarajan, Superintinding engineer Virender Sharma and deputy director Pradeep Thakur today inspected the Kallanai dam. Water released from Mettur dam reaches the centuries old Kallanai dam and is then released again for samba cultivation in delta regions. The central team then interacted with farmers of Kadambangudi and Gugalur in Thanjavur district. The farmers requested them to ensure continuous flow of water till January to save their Samba crops. Meanwhile, the farmers associations in Tiruchi are planning to conduct special poojas in temples tomorrow to find an amicable so;ution to the Cauvery issue. The farmers of delta districts of Tamil Nadu Thanjai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam are waiting with baited breaths as Cauvery water alone can save their samba cultivation.
