A central team yesterday visited the two Jodhpur hospitals in Rajasthan, where 13 women died during childbirth in the last fortnight allegedly after being administered contaminated intravenous fluids. The three-member team of the Union Health Ministry inspected Umaid and MG Hospitals and held discussions with the hospital administration. Voicing concern over the maternal deaths, the National Advisory Council headed by Mrs Sonia Gandhi had sought an explanation from the Health Ministry. Meanwhile, Sanjay Shah, manager of the pharma company that allegedly supplied the contaminated consignment, was questioned by police which brought him to Jodhpur following his arrest in Indore on Sunday. Police said, he will be produced before a the court today and police remand will be sought for further interrogation. Shah is the first person to be arrested in the case.
