Central team visits drought-hit areas, Maha seeks Rs 4000 cr aid

In Maharashtra, a Central team of 10 officers, is on a three-day visit to Marathawada region from today to assess the damage in drought-hit areas. The state government has sought a relief package of 4,000 crore rupees from the Union government. <br/><br/>It had earlier declared drought in 15,747 villages across the State. The region has been facing drought for the four consecutive years. This time around, owing to deficient rain, Kharip crops got withered away. It is estimated that crops spread over more than 39 lakh hectares of land got damaged and farmers altogether sustained a loss of around Rs. 1500 crore.
