Central team to visit flood-hit areas of Tamil Nadu for final assessment of damages

The Central Team headed by Union Home Ministry Joint Secretary TVSN Prasad would be again making a two-day visit to the flood-hit areas of Tamil Nadu for a final assessment of damages. The high-level inter-ministerial team consisting of nine members inspected various places in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Cuuddalore and Tiruvallur districts for three days from November 26 last. <br/><br/>Tamil Nadu chief minister J.Jayalalithaa has said in a statement today, the same team would make the tour from tomorrow. She has expressed hope that after the team's submission of report, the Centre would give more financial assistance. 425 people were dead due to the flood as per the government records. Ms Jayalalithaa announced a compensation of five thousand rupees each for about 25-lakh, 50-thousand houses that were engulfed by water and ten thousand rupees for fully damaged structures. She inaugurated the disbursal of the amount today at the state secretariat in Chennai by way of giving the assistance to five beneficiaries. By 11th of this month, the amount will be credited into the bank accounts of all the beneficiaries, as announced by the administration.
