In Sikkim, a Central team, headed by a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, started its assessment of the losses and damages caused by the recent earthquake on Tuesday.The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidamabram had announced in Gangtok recently that the Centre would not wait for a formal memorandum from the State Government on assessment of losses and damages and would send its own team for assessment.There are no fresh reports of any casualty from the worst hit North district. The relief and rehabilitation work is being undertaken on a large scale. More than 400 persons have been evacuated by air and 7900 persons by road by the Army, so far. One control room each has been set up in all the four districts to coordinate the relief operations .Each Control Room is being monitored by a Minister.However, the power supply has yet not been restored inaccessible areas of Chungthang, Lachen & Lachung though sincere efforts are being made by the Power department engineers to restore it at the earliest.
