Central team report to SC today on crop loss in TN Cauvery delta districts

The central team which visited the Cauvery delta districts of Tamil Nadu to assess the crop loss will submit its report to the Supreme Court today. The team inspected the samba crop loss in the delta districts of the state including Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur , Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.

Our correspondent reports that the delta farmers are awaiting the water released from Mettur Dam as per Supreme court orders. At present 9000 cusecs of water is being released from Mettur Dam which is expected to reach Kallanani by tomorrow.

The delta farmers showed their affected crops because of lack of water to the central team consisting of Agriculture department crops Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Saha, Central Water Commission Chief Engineers K C Jacob, Mahendran and Virender Sharma who inspected the affected Cauvery delta districts of Tamil Nadu. The farmers said that atleast 8 TMC water is needed to save standing samba crops.

The central team visited Kattur Papakurichi in Tiruchirapalli district, Koil Pathu and Rayanthur in Thanajavur district, Perugavaznthan, Vilamkadu in Tiruvarur district and Keezhayur Nagapattinam district. The team will be submitting its report to Supreme Court today.
