Central team headed by Pillai meets Muivah to defuse Nagaland-Manipur border tension

The Union Home Secretary, Mr G.K. Pillai, center’s interlocutor to Naga peace talks R S Pandey and Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio today met Th Muivah at Viswema village near Nagaland Manipur border, where the NSCN-IM general secretary is camping since the 5th of this month en-route to his native village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. <br/><br/>The central team is visiting the state with the mission to defuse the prevailing tense situation at the Nagaland Manipur border. <br/><br/>Speaking to the media after meeting Muivah, Mr Pandey said the Centre would continue parleys with all concerned, such as the Nagaland government, Manipur government, NSCN-IM and<br/>civil societies leaders to break the impasse and jointly see that the problem is resolved at the earliest. He said center has requested Muivah to wait till the situation becomes congenial in Manipur to undertake the visit because of security reasons. <br/><br/>Pandey said the central team had also conveyed to the NSCN(IM) about the decisions taken by the Manipur government on Tuesday on lifting of curfew at Mao gate and replacement of state police forces with central paramilitary forces to allow displaced neighboring Mao villager, who are presently taking shelter in Nagaland, to move back to their homes. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Senior NSCN(IM) functionary V S Atem today made it clear that they will not wait for long and Muivah will go ahead with the visit if the Centre fails to break the stalemate soon. <br/><br/>Later, the central team paid a visit to Kisama village where the displaced Mao villagers are taking shelter. Earlier, on arrival from Imphal, they called on the Governor, Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio and his Cabinet colleagues and also interacted with the representatives of the Naga Hoho and the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights.
