Central team assures Assam govt. of additional funds for relief and rehabilitation

The Centre has assured Assam government of providing additional fund for relief and rehabilitation of displaced people in violence hit areas. This was conveyed by the seven member Central team in a meeting with the senior officials of Assam yesterday. Meanwhile, indefinite curfew continues in Kokrajhar district.

Bodoland Peoples Front, BPF, MLA Pradeep Kumar Brahma has been remanded for 14 days judicial custody by a local court in Kokrajahr after police arrested him for his alleged involvement in ethnic clashes. Our correspondent reports that the Central team expressed satisfaction about relief and rehabilitation measures being provided to the displaced people in the violence hit areas of Assam.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh earlier announced 300 crore rupees for the relief and rehabilitation of the affected people. The team also asked Assam government to set up temporary relief camps so that classes can be resumed in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri district.
