Central team assessing damage caused by floods in Assam

In Assam, a 7-member Central team is assessing the damage caused by floods and landslides. The team has been divided into three groups, with one group visiting districts of Lower Assam, another Upper Assam areas and the third team is in Barak Valley and Dima Hasao district. Before leaving the flood hit districts, all the members met the senior officials of the state government and discussed the flood situation. Official sources said that Assam government has asked for a relief and rehabilitation package of 13 thousand 217 crore rupees from the Centre. The team is likely to meet the Chief Secretary of Assam on Thursday. The team will submit reports to the Centre .So far 125 people have died in flood and landslides. Meanwhile, a two-member team of Environment and Forest Ministry yesterday visited the World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park to appraise the situation. The recent flood damaged roads, bridges, houses, fisheries, croplands and national parks and sanctuaries. More than 5 thousand domestic animals also perished in flood.
