Central team assesses damages caused by rain in Puducherry

A Central team today made a first hand assessment of damages caused by rains in Puducherry. The nine member team headed by TVSN Prasad visited various places devastated by north-east monsoon in the last fortnight. They had interactions with officials, farmers and public. The team visited farm lands where standing crops were lost in the rains that ravaged the Union Territory.<br/><br/>The Central team later met Chief Minister N Rangasamy and held discussions with him. Lok Sabha member Radhakrishnan and Rajya Sabha member Gokulakrishnan too joined the discussions. Mr. Prasad later told reporters that the committee will submit its in-depth assessment report to the Union Government within a week. <br/><br/>Chief Minister N Rangasamy said he will meet Prime Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister after the committee submits its report. He said he is hopeful that the Union Government would release funds for relief measures soon. The Union Territory had earlier requested Centre for immediate release of Rs.182 crore assistance for relief and restoration of infrastructure.
