A seven member high level central team arrives in Chennai today, on a three day visit to Tamil Nadu to assess the damages in the rain affected districts. The team headed by L.Vishwanathan, Joint Secretary, Home Ministry will split into two groups and visit 7 flood hit districts including Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur ,Thiruvarur and Kanyakumari . The central team will hold discussions with the Deputy Chief Minister Mr M.K.Stalin in Chennai this evening, before proceeding to the districts to make an on the spot assessment. Our correspondent reports that the state government had sent a detailed report to the centre on the damages caused by the rains and had sought 1607 crore rupees financial assistance from the National Calamity Relief Fund.
