Central team arrives in Assam to assess damage caused by flood

A seven-member Central team arrived today in Assam to assess the damage caused by devastating flood and landslides. They met the senior officials of various departments of the state government in Guwahati and discussed the recent flood situation before leaving to the flood hit districts. Official sources said that Assam government has asked for a financial package of 13 thousand 217 crore rupees.

The team will submit reports to the Centre and based on it, the Centre is likely to grant sanction to Assam. The Prime Minister has sanctioned 500 crore rupees as ad-hoc relief to the state.

On the other hand, a two-member team of Environment and Forest Ministry today visited Kaziranga National Park to assess the damage. The recent flood killed 595 animals of the park including 17 rhinos. So far, 125 people have died in flood and landslides while another 17 remained untraceable.
