The Centre is implementing a programme to promote coconut cultivation in Lakshadweep based on organic manure. A Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme has also been introduced to protect coconut cultivators from natural calamities in Lakshadweep. Minister of State for Agriculture Tariq Anwar gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. In a written answer, he said a certification programme for organic farms in the Union Territory is in progress. This is intended to boost export of coconut and its products from the island to the European countries and USA, he said.
