Central Poultry farm birds culled in wake of outbreak of bird flu

In Karnataka, the culling of chicken, ducks and emus infected with Avian Influenza is under progress in the Central Poultry Development Organisation in Hessarghatta near Bangalore. Over 19,000 chicken, 13,000 ducks and 300 emus are being culled under the process. The 150 acre institute is quarantined. Over 3600 Turkeys had died of H5N1 influenza in the institute last week. The High Security Animal Disease Hospital in Bhopal has confirmed that the death of birds in the institute is due to bird flu. The Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry Mr. Arvind Jannu informed that the process of culling and sanitising all the cells where birds were reared will take more than ten days. He confirmed that no other incidents of bird flu are reported outside the Poultry Development Organisation premises. However, precautionary measures are on in the one square kilometer area according to the protocol laid down by Government of India.
