Central package for modernising police forces in Arunachal Pradesh dists

A central package is in the offing for modernising police forces in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap and Changlang districts, bordering Nagaland and Myanmar. Home Minister Chidambaram said in Itanagar that his ministry has already sanctioned setting up of more police stations and recruitment of police. Besides, CRPF is being inducted to counter insurgent activities. He was speaking to newsmen after attending a review meeting on security situation of the state.

Chidambaram said, the Arunachal Pradesh government has already started the process of recruitment for 1,526 police personnel for both the districts. Their training process will start from July 2nd. Of the total sanctioned strength, 400 policemen will be promoted from the existing force. The rest will be recruited. He said the state government is undertaking the recruitment process in phased manner.

On the reported turf war between NSCN(IM) and NSCN(K) in both the districts, Chidambaram said the ceasefire agreement with the Naga outfit

does not extend to Arunachal Pradesh and the state government can take stern action against the cadres of both the factions.He said if the NSCN factions are fighting among themselves and make people suffer the central forces will take firm action.

Chidambaram also said, there is minimal presence of CPI (Maoist) in the border areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He said state police has been directed to take stern action against CPI (Maoist) cadre.
