The Central Government will start compensating the Himalayan states in lieu of conservation of forest and environment in the form of green bonus from the next financial year. This was disclosed by the Union minister of State for Environment and Forest Mr.Jairam Ramesh in Shimla today while addressing the concluding session of two-day Himalayas' Chief Ministers conclave. He said the Green bonus will be provided to all those hill states as incentive where forest cover is high and thus contributing to environment protection. Mr.Jairam Ramesh said the centre is also considering to declare the areas situated above 4 thousand meters as non forest areas so that the respective states could carry out development activities without taking clearance from the forest and environment ministry.<br/>Out of the five invited Himalayan Chief Ministers, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Mr. Ramesh Pokhrial attended the conclave and both demanded for separate ministry for Himalayan state and allocation of special funds for the development of Himalayan states to meet issues relating to knowledge and information about glaciology.
