Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has assured full support to the Maharashtra government in its fight against Naxalites in Gadchiroli and Gondia districts of Vidarbha region.
The Union home minister held a high level meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Home Minister R.R Patil and senior IAS and IPS officers to review the steps taken by the state government to tackle Naxalism.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Patil said that Chidambaram has promised to provide central funding to the state for execution of developmental work in Naxal-hit areas.
Patil said that the Union Home minister assured that more funds will be made available for developing the infrastructural facilities like road, electricity and water in the Naxal-affected areas of Gondhia and Gadchiroli.
In this meeting, the state government presented an action taken report to the Union Home Minister, enlisting its successes and failures in the last 11 months to curb the Naxalite problem in Gadchiroli and Gondhia districts.
