The Center has stressed the need to develop strong power transmission system between power house and bulk consumption centres to meet the growing requirement of electricity in the country. Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Ambuj Sharma said this while addressing a conference on transmission and distribution of power in New Delhi today. Mr Sharma, however, said development of transmission systems involves issues like strengthening of National Grid besides constrained transmission corridors and ecological problems which needs to be addressed. The Joint secretary said proper distribution and transmission of electricity is the need of hour to avoid any black out condition. He said, the power industry is also working on the strategies to hasten the commissioning of new plants to meet the growing demand.Speaking on the occasion, Adviser ( Energy) in the Planning Commission, I A Khan said the Commission has projected around 10 per cent growth rate in the power sector in 12th five year plan. He also stressed the need to manage consumption and advocated for the right use of electricity by the users.
