The census has found that 81.3 per cent of the total 248.8 million households of the country are Hindus and 12.5 per cent are Muslims. According to Registrar General of India's 2011 Census data on households which was released today, 2.5 per cent households are Christians,1.7 per cent Sikhs,0.7 per cent Buddhists and 0.4 per cent Jain. As per data, the highest percentage of female headed households has been found in Christian community followed by Buddhists. <br/><br/>The lowest percentage of female headed households is Jain community. It was observed that the average household size is higher in male headed households compared to female headed household in all religious community. Sex wise variation is highest among Hindu community and the lowest variation is seen among Sikhs.
