Celebrations mark Maharashtra Day

Maharashtra Day was celebrated with traditional fervour in Mumbai today. Various events in Mumbai marked the celebration of 52nd anniversary of the formation of the state of Maharashtra. A special program was organised at Shivaji Park which was attended by Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and his other Cabinet colleagues. The Governor took salute at the ceremonial parade, comprising members of the state reserve police force, Brihanmumbai Commando Force, home guards, civil defence, fire brigade and city police and addressed a huge gathering. Leaders of various political parties paid rich tributes to martyrs who sacrificed their lives for formation of the state. The Maharashtra Governor K Shankarnarayanan felicitated 23 former Mayors of Mumbai at his official residence in the presence of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
