A series of functions in Mumbai marked the celebration of 52nd anniversary of the formation of the state of Maharashtra today. A special program was organised at the historic Shivaji Park on the occasion that was attended by Governor K Sankaranarayanan, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and his other cabinet colleagues. The governor took the salute at the ceremonial parade, comprising members of the state reserve police force, Brihanmumbai Commando Force, home guards, civil defence, fire brigade and city police and addressed a huge gathering. In another event, politicians cutting across party lines assembled at Hutatma Chowk to pay tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for formation of the state. On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, The Governor of Maharashtra K. Shankar Narayanan will be felicitating 23 ex-mayors of Mumbai. Besides, various social and cultural programs are also being organised in different parts of the city.Due to Maharashtra Day celebrations at Shivaji Park in Dadar, the Mumbai traffic Police has asked motorists to avoid certain roads today
