CEC reaches Patna to take stock of poll preparedness

The election commission team led by Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Sunil Arora reached Patna today for a two – day visit to review the preparedness for Lok Sabha polls this year. The 11 member election commission team held discussions with Bihar Chief electoral officer and nodal officer of state police and Central forces in the state. The team instructed concerned officers to take effective steps to ensure free and fair polls.<br />''<br />''The team will meet with representatives of all major political parties this afternoon. Later the poll panel team will interact with nodal officers of income tax, transport and tax departments, railways, airport and state lead bank coordinators.<br />''<br />'' The election commission team will hold a review meeting with Chief Secretary and Home Secretary besides state Director General of police tomorrow. Sources said the poll panel team is likely to focus on taking feedback from state officials.<br />''<br />'' Issues relating to requirement of Central forces to man more than 70 thousand polling booths in Bihar, updating of electoral rolls, the condition of EVMs and strategies to curb black money in the elections are likely to be discussed. The commission is also likely to issue directions on the installation of voter-verified paper audit trail machines with EVMs at all polling stations.<br />''<br />
