CEC Nasim Zaidi expresses satisfaction over arrangements for Uttrakhand assembly polls

Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi has expressed full satisfaction over arrangements being made by election office for Uttrakhand assembly elections to be held on 15th of next month. He was addressing a press conference in Dehradun today. <br/><br/>Earlier, during their stay in the state capital for two days, the full member team of the commission consulted various political parties' representatives and held series of meetings with other officials related to poll process.<br/><br/> Mr Zaidi said, instructions have been issued to take necessary action on grievances of political parties and other poll related issues raised during these meetings. The main grievance of political parties was of distribution of liquor and narcotics. <br/><br/>The issues of paid news and misuse of social media were also raised by the parties. Mr Zaidi assured that adequate central forces will be deployed in the state to ensure free and fair elections. He appealed all the political parties and voters of the state to cooperate in smooth conduct of election process. <br/><br/>On this occasion, he also launched two mobile apps for voters with several poll related features. More from our correspondent:<br/><br/>To meet any disaster like situation on polling day, the commission has instructed state officials to prepare a Disaster Recovery Plan and implement it effectively on ground level. The commission also sought a report from Chief Secretary with-in next five days on grievances of distribution of illicit or legitimate liquor among the voters. <br/><br/>Similarly, Standing Operating procedure will be followed under which deployment of Para Military Forces would be ensured before 72 hours of polling for free and fair election. Air Intelligence Unit will also be set up to keep close watch on any kind of money exchange through airport or other helipads of the state.
