Chief Election Commissioner S Y Qureshi and Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla are holding consultations with representatives of recognised national and regional political parties, in Chennai in connection with the Assembly elections due in Tamil Nadu. The CEC will be meeting District Collectors, Election Officials, and Senior Police Officers on the poll preparations. The elections are due in May next year. AIR correspondent reports that most political parties who attended today's meeting demanded that the Assembly elections in the State be held in single day polling and the Election Commission to take stringent action against political parties distributing money and gifts to woo voters.
