Ceasefire violations: India not an aggressor but will do whatever required to defend its territory, says Defence Minister

India has asked Pakistan to stop unprovoked firing and shelling at Line of Control and International border if it wants peace on border. In a stern warning, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said, if Islamabad persists with its adventurism, India's forces will make it un-affordable for Pakistan.

The Defence Minister said, India is not an aggressor but will do whatever is required to defend its territory. Mr. Jaitley told media in New Delhi yesterday that there is a connection between firing and infiltration as Pakistan uses firing as a cover to infiltrate into the Indian territory.

Meanwhile, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval yesterday reviewed the situation along the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir in view of repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Home Secretary Anil Goswami, IB Chief and senior BSF officials were present in the meeting. Earlier, Mr Doval apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the developments at the border.

Heavy firing and shelling by the Pakistan forces yesterday left 15 persons, including three BSF jawans, injured. Pakistani troops targeted 60 outposts and 90 villages in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts. According to Defence sources, the BSF troops have given a befitting reply to the unprovoked Pak shelling.

Director General of BSF, D K Pathak told reporters in New Delhi that the jawans guarding the borders will continue to retaliate as long as Pakistan does not stop ceasefire violations. Official sources said, in view of the shelling, over 30 thousand people have been evacuated from border areas along International Border in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, to safer places.
