In Jammu & Kashmir, the latest ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Poonch and the subsequent killings of civilians is adding to the tension in the areas along LoC or borders. This has also strained the Indo-Pak relations. Political observers contend that the upcoming NSA level talks between two countries should be utilised as an opportunity to achieve breakthrough in defusing tension and bring bilateral relations on rails. Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress & Omar Abdullah of National Conference have expressed resentment over the alleged inaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk or tweet about the latest killings and ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Meanwhile, another controversy has erupted after separatist woman leader and chief of 'Dukhtaran-e-Millat' (Daughters of Nation) Asiya Andrabi addressed a rally organised by Hafiz Saeed-led Jamat-ud Dawa in Pakistan on August 14, the Pakistan's Independence Day. Saeed was seen sitting on the stage during Andrabi's address. Reports said that hours before her address, the woman separatist leader joined by dozens of her party activists had gathered in Buchhpora area of the city where they celebrated Pakistan's Independence Day. Congress spokesman RPN Singh, BJP's State President Jugal Kishore Sharma and National Panthers Party in J&K have demanded her arrest for treason. State Police have already registered an FIR against her on the same day. Andrabi had earlier also celebrated Pakistan's National Day on March 23 this year and hoisted the flag of that country, following which the police had registered a case against her under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
